Best known as the producer of what many consider the world's finest gin, Herno also has an ambitious single malt whisky program. Located on Sweden's High Coast (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) at 62 degrees north, Herno is one of the world's most northerly whisky distilleries. Founded by Jon Hillgren, the distillery uses Swedish barley and ages in a variety of casks in a climate that swings from -25C winter to +30C summer -- extreme temperature cycling that drives intense seasonal maturation. The High Coast terroir (post-glacial uplift, maritime boreal climate) produces a distinctive spirit. Herno's gins have won World's Best Gin multiple times, establishing the credibility that now supports their whisky.
